My mother was a girl when WW1 was being fought and a young mother in a mining area when the General Strike was happening in the '30's - I picked up a lot of her attitudes to make do and mend when she brought me up on her own after my father had died - to say that she would not believe the wastefulness of how people behave now both in terms of the food that gets thrown away and the rubbish which is bought, is I think no more than the truth.

Those tubs of yogurt or ice cream with clear lids make quite good little propagators. Also if you know anyone with chickens you can ask for their muck, have to rot it down before using.
Does anyone know if small creature bedding hay can be put on the compost heap? We're getting some hamsters at Christmas
