You could have up to 50g of brown rice or porridge and still be very low carb just once a day

That IS good news! Once we get into the hang of it, I really would like my 40g of porridge that I was just getting used to.

I have porridge ever couple of days because I love it - but I don't want to carb load - it works

Can you tell you've hit a passion of mine with carbing

Just flicked through the low GI cookbook...nothing really stood out as anything different to what's already been suggested. But it did seem to suggest using pearl barley in place of rice in things like pilaffs, etc. I guess that wouldn't be carb-free, just low-er carb??

Well, marvelous so far. Mr Z has looked at the cake and pizza and said 'cor'; which is a good thing.

I'm off to the shops tomorrow I think, for more cauli.

do you consider beans to be carbs?

I was desperate to try that Pizza but too late for tonight, and the popcorn...just had to put Garam Masala on the shopping list as mine was so old I'd binned it. I hate cauli but that looks fab!

do you mean baked beans or green beans? Baked beans are high, geen beans are good to go

Parsnips are among the higher end of the carb veg scale as are squashes, but still worthy of including - just not too often

The research I did said that beans were medium but peas were high - so some beans were in my chilli. Mainly for the protein element.

I would add that not all carbs are created equal - for instance, if I had to choose between peas or wheat , peas would win hands down. But it depends how low you wish to go and what your aim is.

Sites I whole-heartedly recommend are Wheat Belly - if you read the book there will (probably) be no turning you back. It gives an easily understandable account as to why wheat* now is not the wheat we had when we first stood up.
