I've just had a google for garbure as I'd never heard of it. I'm another soup lover but there is just one that I really don't like: Sopa Mallorquina (Mallorcan soup). It isn't really what I think of as a soup or even a stew. It's a more or less solid mass of cabbage and old bread. I've even had it in a few places as I thought I'd just been unlucky in my choice of restaurant the first couple of times.

I've never had sopa mallorquín. I've just looked up some recipes. They seem to have pork in. Does that sound like what you had?Originally posted by greenishfing View Post

Other Spanish soups I really like are caldo gallego, though I'm not sure that would be your cup of tea, and porrusalda, essentially a leek and salt cod soup that looks awful but is delicious.

Caldo gallego looks nice. The main problem I had with Sopa Mallorquina was that it was solid with no "soupy" liquid and bland. If it had any pork in it was exceedingly well hidden. You could have eaten it all with a fork. It must have been me, as the locals seemed to enjoy it. I like salt cod and porrusalda looks good.

Talking of soups…when I was a nipper and we came to France on holiday, the hotels always had a lovely soupy type smell around meal times.
Never had a whiff of it since but I always wondered what exactly it was.
We tended to be served what I recall as being a watery potato broth but I don’t recall it had the same smell.
I’ve never tried any of those Spanish soups- they sound lovely!

Flo, the last time one of my sisters rang me, she told me I must try "Curly Fries". When I have enough freezer space to get a bag I intend trying them.
Today a chicken and vegetable stir fry with a sauce made with garlic, ginger, soy sauce, chicken stock, and maybe a few chilli flakes served with rice.

Today will be tuna wraps with a side salad
Tomorrow a stirfry using turkey as the star ingredient.
Yep planning ahead. We’re both into the swing of dieting so are trying not to spend too long each day thinking about and planning food things * drools*

Last night's chicken and vegetable stir fry with rice was a great success. It is now in Mr GF's list of favourites. What prompted me to make it, for the first time in years was because I got a Chinese cabbage substituted for a lettuce in an online grory hop.
Tonight corned beef crispbakes, salad and spicy couscous.
If I can find a smaller dish a small raspberry and whisky trifle. If not it will probably be another huge one.

I saw a recipe just the other day, GF, for what was termed 'triffle'. It looked very dry despite being described as light and moist.
For us tonight, grouper with green beans and broccoli. Haven't had grouper in years. Orange slices in a muscovado sugar syrup with a dash of rum for Mr Snoop (I'm going for another dry month).

I've just given Mr GF a choice. Salmon or soup. He's picked salmon. I think salmon baked with lemon and capers, new potatoes, corn on the cob, carrots and french beans with a dollop of tartare sauce (made with the leftover mayonnaise I made yesterday).
Trifle. (I did make it in a smaller dish. 1 litre as opposed to 1½ litre)
