I've got a great one by her too - The Basic Basics Jams, Preserves and Chutneys: Amazon.co.uk: Marguerite Patten: Books which is really good but also like the River Cottage one too. Also have a WI one which is a bit useless and a National Trust one which I quite like - Good Old-fashioned Jams, Preserves and Chutneys: Amazon.co.uk: Sara Paston-Williams: Books although it's not really a proper preserving one as it only really concentrates on jams, chutneys etc and no canning and the like. Another one I have is How to Store Your Garden Produce: The Key to Self-sufficiency: Amazon.co.uk: Piers Warren, Tessa Pettingell: Books which is quite a useful reference book. As you can see I don't think one book covers everything and take things from each publication. My latest book which I got last year is a good canning one although it does seem hard to get hold of (I found it in a second hand shop) - Presses and crushers for apples, fruit and cider from VigoOriginally posted by phil the shed View Posti'm at work at the moment but my fave is a book by margurette patten?
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Having seen this post (and the price) I duly ordered a copy, which arrived today - what great value (1p book, 2.80 postage) it's like new, hardback complete with outer sleeve, looks as though it's never been read. Cheers VCOriginally posted by veggiechicken View PostThere are so many books out there and I have quite a few myself
but this is the one I return to most times "Good Housekeeping" Complete Book of Preserving: Amazon.co.uk: "Good Housekeeping": Books."We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses."-- Abraham Lincoln

Hmm, I can rectify that, a couple of jars of something ,once I've picked out what I want to make (all of it of course...) can be flying your way VCOriginally posted by veggiechicken View PostI see there's only one copy left at 0.01p. Wish I was on commission!

This combined with the River Cottage book covers everything I'll ever need !!"We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses."-- Abraham Lincoln

That's a very kind offer T8Ter but not necessary as the commission I would have earned on 0.01p would not have made me rich!!
Glad you like the book. I've just been looking at my jam spattered copy. So many bits of paper between the pages with my scribbled notes where I've played around with the ingredients or quantities!
