I pickled some cauliflower a month ago, uses fresh clean kilner jars, having put them in the oven to 'steralise' them.
On checking them today, I noticed white crusty satly deposits on the outside of the lids - mostly appears to be on the edge of the rubber seal. Any ideas what it is? Do I have to bin the lot?

. This is particularly likely if you pickled in brine and/or rinsed the outside of the jar with tap water before sterilising. Once you have eaten the contents soak the rubber seal overnight in boiled water and gently rub off any remaining crystals with a damp sponge before sterilising with Milton's
it might be something horrid - but I'll give it a go in the interests of helping others on here
