I re-use it while doing batches of bottles but don't keep it more than 24 hours. Not sure whether it loses its sterilising strength and would be interested to find out.

Sodium metabisulphite and potassium metabisulphite are both... sanitizers. When combined with water, they release sulfur dioxide, a powerful antiseptic. For sanitizing equipment mix one ounce of bisulfate in one gallon of water, then store the solution in a glass container with a tight-fitting lid.

When the solution is needed for sanitizing, pour a little into the piece of equipment to be sanitized and swirl it around. Be sure all surfaces are coated, then drain the solution back into your storage container. When you can no longer detect an odor to the solution, make a new solution

I understand that to mean I can store the made-up sterilising solution until I can no longer smell it?

I guess so from that excerpt.
