  • some people are just rude

Long story but somehow or another a market trader (selling flowers) offered me a spare sausage roll yesterday (you couldn't make that up really lol) and I refused and told him thanks very much but I am a veggie. To which he looked me up and down and said ' blimy you look well for someone who doesn't eat meat.'

I was so shocked someone could be so rude I unfortunately didn't have a rude answer back.

The annoying thing is that I had already paid and was waiting for my change, so couldn't just walk away and not buy anything.

Needless to say I won't be going back there.

    Blooming cheek.

Why do people assume that not eating meat is somehow unhealthy anyway?

          I probably would have said 'I said I didn't eat meat - I didn't say I don't like choclolate"!

If you ate some meat you might grow a thicker skin or be a bit quicker with a cutting riposte

probably because some vegetarians/vegans have this "suffocatingly moral look at me aren't I special attitude" (usually the ones that wear leather footwear)

I guess he didn't realise he was being rude, but I have come across a few farmers and butchers who are shocked that I hardly eat meat. Can't call myself vegetarian, as I do eat fish and the very occasional chicken/organic ham, but I'm one of the healthiest people I know! My blood is always admired when I do the haemoglobin test for the NBS, too!

It's a good thing it wasn't my educated friend he said that to. She'd have asked him to justify what he said, complete with references and firm evidence.

some one said something similar to a friend of mine whos veggie, her replies was yes im very healthy rarely suffer with any ailment and i have great looking skin too thanks to all the vitamins i get from my veg instead of a grey pallor caused by clogged arteries from too much fryed meat and food and ciggeretts. the guy with his bacon butty and fag packet on side of the stall quickley apologised and chucked her in some freebies he hadnt quite ment it the way it sounded, they often think its raw or boiled veg veggies live on and dont realise that there are great meat alternitives now and many veggies are creative in the kitchen and as a result have a far more interesting diet.

As a veggie myself I'd have just assumed he was having a joke with you.

                        Which bit, the bit about
                        A) Someone offering a gift and I assume a backward compliment and then being classed as rude

                        Or

                        B) the morally superior attitude that veggies (some) display

LOL, sorry, in advance, but that did make me laugh! I've known a couple of 'vegetarians' and I have to say they were both really pale and pasty-looking!

All it means is you are probably following a proper healthy diet, unlike the two I knew, who just stopped eating meat, lived on processed packet food full of chemicals and additives and wouldn't know a 'real' vegetable if it hit them!

There's a good reason for that!

Oh I knew a few like that, hopeless they were. One actually had to go and have a monthly iron injection because she used to get so anaemic - you could see her droop in the week before the injection!!!

It's a bit more complicated than just 'cutting out' meat, isn't it!! That's why I try to go to a bit more effort when I have vegetarian friends over and actually make them a proper vegetarian meal (with varying success, but I do try!), rather than just offering them the non-meat alternatives - I mean how many baked potatoes can a person eat!!!!!
