Default The pepperdew thread

Don't get me wrong here, I know we all do our best to help out fellow gardeners to find seeds that they need. However if you look at the last page of posts on the thread in the seeds swap forum, you'll see posts from people all over the world! All asking for seeds that are as rare as hens teeth! I just wish that those people would get more involved in the forum.

Rant over.
Tracy

If they checked when the thread was started they would realise that the seeds were offered in January LAST YEAR. If you offer seeds to people then, when they're gone, they're gone!

Its my second attempt at them, last years did not germinate at all, I was given some this year and i had a 100% germination, they took about 3 weeks to show themselves but are now looking realy good, about to pot up in final size for the greenhouse.

I think the original comment was about people posting once, begging for these seeds and never being heard of again. by far the best way to get hold of them is to regularly log on to the vine and participate, they do come up occaisionally you just have to be patient (worked for me anyway )

Indeed, I will share seed with any active vine member. People who pm me asking for seed without ever posting however get a reply..............but no seed.

I guess I can include myself as being in the Peppadew thread, not for a hand out of free seed as I never work that way, but never the less I wanted seed and I offered tomato seed in return. I think you'll find the increase in postings is due mainly to the web link for the Vine being posted on a US garden forum site and readers are seeing it and posting accordingly.

I can also say that I was one who stayed around, whether I got seed or not and became a Grape. I still have some tomato seeds to swap by the way, as I thought the temptation of what I had may have helped.

Cheers from Oz.

Wow, you have these seeds, I so need these seeds!

I will say whatever you need me to say to get these seeds!

Flood, drought and pillaging is what my village has experienced.

Not really, we have experienced no such thing, neither do we have a good supply of pepperdew seeds/plants, so we are equally as neglected!!

I think I will survive the season and possibly all of our villagers won't die without these plants and maybe a nice gardener will send us a few spare seeds.

If not, we will live, if, however, anyone in a position to distribute these seeds wants to send us some......YOU COULD SAVE OUR STARVING VILLAGE!

If not, and if I manage to get hold of any seeds myself, I will post my own details and distribute as needed.

Kind needy regards.

They're rare because the only people allowed to sell, grow or distribute them are PeppadewTM. That's what the trademark means.
My suspicious mind makes me think that some of those first-time posters asking for seeds might have been lawyers trying to find out who is growing them illegally

Whne I saw you posted that link in the other thread, I have to confess my first thought was exactly the same thing!

What better way to track down active growers and suppliers.

Yes, that's always a possibility in light of the article in the link.

I read 2_sheds post and replied thus -

Quote:
Furthermore, only the holder of the rights is permitted to grow, sell, export, import or stock the Piquanté variety of pepper or any product that is derived from the variety or that is not distinguishable from the protected variety. Aspects such as the discovery, the breeding, the stability and uniqueness of the variety were all challenged in great detail and the rights were upheld in all instances.
So if you try to grow/sell another pepper that looks like their pepper its against the law! Thats a bit steep isn't it?

Can individual pepper varieties be identified exactly? Or is it just to put people off? I can understand not being allowed to market 'peppadew' peppers but does it mean you can't market pickled sweet/hot peppers of a similar ilk? (I mean even ketchup has more than just Heinz!)

Wouldn't the pepper Rocoto get confused.

In fact, is it worth Pigletwillie locking the original thread? Unless he really is answering all the requests?
