  • Favorite Horror Film ??

I love the SAW movies, good mix of blood, guts, suspense and twists. But I think one of my all time favourites has got to be " An American Werewolf In London", the special effects are excellent for a film of its year (made me jump and spill my pop corn at the pictures).
So what's your favorite Horror movie/s???

Clowns freak me out, I really don't like them. I thought the book was batter than the film, but I still enjoyed the film, the bit where the lads arm gets ripped off...YUK.

Vote 2 for Psycho - Hitchcock is the master of suspense, which I find far scarier than blood and guts and gore. My favourite scene is when Arbogast the detective gets pushed down the stairs

Alien. Horror in space. I had a very bad night's sleep after seeing it in the cinema.

Dont watch films generally, but got sucked into one many years ago.
                  The Changeling.
Couldnt tell you who was in it, as dont know actors and stuff, but it was so scary that I actually had to shout upstairs to the Mme Leponge of the day to come downstairs and sit next to me to watch the rest of the film.
Only one tiny bit of blood, all in the mind.
                  Muchos scaryos.

Oh dear- I don't really 'do' horror
I manage to scare myself for days afterwards- they actually leave me feeling nauseous for days when I reflect back.

I think that the best ones are without knives and blood and work on the psychological aspect
                    So- I suppose I'd nominate

                    Nosferatu

                    YouTube - Nosferatu Trailer

                    and

YouTube - Alfred Hitchcock's"The Birds" in 1 minute, and 40 seconds.

and of course- who couldn't enjoy
                    Johnny Deppe in Edward Scissorhands???

"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

I can't watch vicious bloody carve up films - I just find them disturbing and 'orrible.

I much prefer Japanese horror films, Dark Water, Ring etc. no blood, tons of suspense and genuinely frightening (that said, I often hide in Mr R's shoulder at really scary bits).

There was a series of Spanish horror shorts on tv a couple of years ago, which no-one except us seems to have watched. Not much blood spilled in any I saw, but they among the most chilling little films I've seen.
                      I don't roll on Shabbos

First appropriate one would be Gardeners World BBC new series.
But for sheer horror would be 1408 if you havent seen this its a must watch

Michael Myers in the original Halloween is probably the scariest slasher baddie there is. Never says anything, never runs, never shows any emotion.

I loved Nightmare on Elm Street when it first came out though it's been parodied so many times now.

American Werewolf scared me witless as a kid.

                          As did The Howling.

                          So many to chose from.

Evil Dead spooked me back in the day.

I actually quite enjoyed The Blair Witch - if you ignored all the hype, it wasn't that bad given the budget.

                          The Omen, just evil.

                          The Thing - freaky!

Pirhana and Jaws both had be avoiding water for a while.

Alligator made me wary of the toilet for some time.

Amityville worried me for a while - the bit with the boys belly in particular.

The Stuuf put me off that marshmallow sandwich spread for life.

Blood Beach - made me think twice about going to the beach.

                          So many to chose from.

A friend of mine is a big Dario Argento fan - can't see it meself, but each to their own.

Apparently Hitchcock was ill the day they were supposed to shoot that scene, so the crew shot it anyway without him the way they thought it should be done.
When Hitchcock got back he watched the scene and praised their skills, but they'd shot it with a close-up of Abrogast's feet walking up the stairs and Hitch' felt it suggested too much suspense and the viewer would know he was going to die.
He reshot the whole scene far less suspensful so his demise would be more of a shock.
