  • Do you have a nemesis?

As titled really. I post on a few different forums and it seems that on each forum there is always one person that replies to every thread that I reply to.
If I say it is potato disease y they say it is disease x and so on. I have never met any of these people and don't know why they do it.
It tends to be people that have been on the forums for a long time and want to answer every question they can to boost their post numbers or something.
So does it happen to anyone else?
Doesn't happen on here though as you are all nice people
    Potato videos here.

I think why it dosn't happen on here is...gardeners like to help other gardeners... not try to make them feel bad about what they have to say, even if its right or wrong, there's a lot of nasty people about , but i think i can safely say..NOT ON HERE. i've found everyones very nice

I don't seem to have time to post on other forums these days But I have seen that sort of thing happening elsewhere - the long time member feels that they have to be right about everything to maintain their reputation, or whatever. I hope it doesn't happen here... For one thing, our long-time members are as happy as anyone to learn something new, and for another - you're our potato guru Tattieman

I have never understood the 'collecting posts' game, who gives a doo dahs how many posts - content is what counts, whether it be for learning or a bit of fun, we have it all here in spades (no excuses made for the pun)

My highschool nemesis has suddenly reappeared back in my life - twenty years later, a very long way from our school, and most bizarrely of all, at the Weight Watchers meeting I help at. She used to torment me about my weight at school, but now shes bigger than me (**sorry, but I've just sniggered**)

There are people who.. if they think they know about something, just HAVE to say so (I have to resist the temptation at times). There are others who just have to know a bit more about something than anyone else.
I'm not convinced about the 'numbers of posts' thing. I think people mostly just enjoy 'talking' a lot, and even if they do 'check numbers' (as some of us were doing on CTAM) that isn't the main idea, just a bit of a silly lark (and the silliness is half the fun).

I go on a couple of horsey forums where there are far too many know-it-alls. In the horsey world, "all the gear and no idea" is rife! The worst ones are those who have suddenly found a method or product and suddenly everything else is carp and so wrong that they feel the need to rectify our errant thinking. That's when 'close browser' feels good, lol!

                  all the time!
myself usually, someone will allways know better than me.then i get in to an argument or something silly and applogise even when later im proved right.
a good put down line to use !

Can't say I've ever noticed this sort of thing here. There are certain people who tend to post on the same threads that I do and quite often we'll have differing opinions, but I think it's more that they and I have similar interests and that their experience of dealing with it is just different. I actually think this is good because it gives the person who asked the question two different view-points and two different ways to tackle the problem.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

I think Bluemoon's right in that we are prepared to acknowledge that people can have different opinions. Especially in gardening. We all like to do things our own way and because plants have this blinding urge to grow, they do so. So we think it's because we're right! I try to say (and I hope I do) that 'I've found..' or 'In my experience..' because you are telling people what you have found works. I wouldn't suggest that there's no other way.

                      I hope I'm not anyone's nemesis!

Well it all started on one website when someone asked how to store some seed potatoes for planting at a later time. My reply was to place them in your fridge at a temp of around 4degrees as this would keep them dormant. This is what we do in our large freezer sheds with 1000s of tons. My nemesis replied don't put them in the fridge as the cold will kill them!!
The next thread was how many potatoes for a large area and I explained one potato 12-15" apart and beds to be 24" apart at least so they needed 200 tubers or there abouts.
Again my nemesis answers straight after me saying that everyone in farming knows that you should plant by weight and not by the number of seed!!
I never put an answer back to the comments but I thought why put those replies on?
I am now on another forum and someone said do I have blight and they described what sounds like blight. My reply was sounds like early blight but pictures would help.
A reply from a member with 4 stars appeared once pictures were put on the thread and stated that it was blackleg and magnesium shortage that was the problem then went on to say that Tattieman was confusing the issue and that there was no blight about and nobody worries about early blight and he knew this because he grows potatoes in his garden etc etc and I thought what have I done to upset him?
I don't know all the answers but some folk think they do.
