  • Do you get hassle for eating healthy veg?

    Vegetables are a swear word!!

We recently spent 3 days in Vienna, met up with 2 other couples who we see a few times a year as we live in different areas. First evening we were asked about what we have been doing in the garden, so explained about renovation project, raised beds, veggies etc. Ok.....

During our time there in restaurants, cafe's etc others would select their meal option but I found the choices limited to quite heavy meals and not much in the way of fresh fruit or veggies but always managed to find something I could have if not a perfect choice.

Being 6 persons it was sometimes difficult to decide where to go, what to do, routes directions etc so at times we split up to meet later in the day. We wanted to sight see and to try to find some music culture etc maybe some exclusive shops, the others fancied high tea in a couple of posh hotels. This was all fine by us but on returning home the females of the other couples have complained that we were in sensitive to their size and that we should not have been talking about vegetables when half of the party were overweight! ????

I am amazed. Can anyone tell me what we did wrong?
Our meal choices etc were ours and we did not comment or preach about what anyone else was choosing. We are not saints and we enjoy chocolate and desserts etc but we prefer our main meals to be lighter and healthy (so that we have room for dessert etc) The last time we saw these people was in January and I had lost a lot of weight for my sons wedding (21llbs) but I am not this light at the moment having regained 7lbs but my good friend at home says she bets it was because I am slimmer and did not indulge as they did.

I am utterly gobsmacked that people can complain at others eating healthily.
What do you all think and how can we deal with this going forward?

    Thanks

So vegetables must be a swear word !

How rude of them to say anything. I suspect they know they are overweight and didnt like it cos you have lost weight, well done you. What to say without being rude to them, I have no Idea.

Wow now that really sounds like sour grapes (pardon the pun, or is it a swear word in this context?) to me. How can something as inoffensive as talking about veg be so misconstrued? only by the paranoid methinks.
I do encounter alot of negativity towards organic food and sustainable living. I am not the type to put myself in the firing line and mostly keep my opinions to myself. The thing that shocks me the most is how many people are against recycling! I mean, to me it makes practical sense even if you disregard the moral implications of wasting resources. Only yesterday we had a guy in our shop saying he 'disagrees' with recycling... pardon me but wtflip???
sorry, off on a bit of a tangent

They are too pathetic for words, send em some packets of seeds as an apology, I would recommend Stinky Bob as it will help with their Diarrhea

Its funny you mention that. We had an earlier discussion a few months back with one of the persons where she was up in arms that her refuge was only collected 1xfortnight. We explained that we had very little waste as it all goes in either the compost bin or in our green cone composter which takes cooked food, bones etc. She was most indignant that we were happy with 1x fortnight collections.

I think this is true but I can hardly appologise for losing weight and eating my 5 a day. As a couple we really are unsure how to get the friendlyness back.

Seriously, it is THEIR problem, not yours. You have done nothing wrong. Congrats on losing the weight for your sons wedding and for doing so much in the garden.
Thanks. You have all made me feel better that it is not me but them. I was fretting but also could not understand the logic of the complaint.

I think it would have been more insensitive to go on and on about cream cakes and chips, tbh.

btw, I was in the chippy today, and every other customer was .. well, extremely obese. There's no polite way to put it. Bellies hanging down over their knees
