  • Birthday Wish List

Okay, not my birthday yet but I'm being asked already what I want for it.

There's no music, clothes etc I need so thought I'd gear a wish list towards gardening but....

I don't want anythign expensive - it's a hoby I love and not after lavish things... I have a perfect fork (half inched off my Dad) and very decent secatures (curtesy of Dave, love ya). I've got lots of seeds but not sure about asking for more....?? I don't have time or space for a greehouse or poly tunnel and the cold frame my Dad made this year did sterling work anyway....

So, what to ask for. I've put my bid in with Mr Shortie for some 'help me down the allotment' vouchers that I can cash in when I need the muscle or even just some company. Plus it's free (so very cheap) and good excerise for him.

Any ideas what I could ask for? You know sometimes how someone will say something and you think 'cooooo, I never thought of that.....'

I love the idea of the vouchers, where can I buy them from

I have always hankered after those metal spiral spikes that go into the ground and support all sorts of climbing plants, tomatoes, cucumbers, melons etc. They always look useful and I don't think they are too expensive - or what about a TubTrug or even a trug.

I have started a list for dare I say the C*******s word and my birthday which is in January I would like some books about what to do with the crops when you have picked them there are two called ' what to do with all those courgettes ' and what to do with all those root crops' but first I am going to look at them in the library. I have lots of cookery books so I dont want them.
A whelbarrow would be good, but I dont want a fold up one.
      New wellie shoes not boots.
I need some long bamboo canes.
last year my son gave me a voucher for wyevale but as their stuff is so dear I would rather have them from b&q or similar.
I'm sure I will come up with more before the time

mine is next week and i keep getting asked, so i asked mum for a yearly subsription or at least some to GYO Mag and then my bestest buds always club together, so asked them for Garden Vouchers! My OH is giving me some dosh for a spending spree with me mate on the actual day, but i will miss my sis and her silly gifts this year, she has already got me a webcam, before she left, but i usually get something really silly that makes me giggle!

I will keep an eye out for your birthday shortie and hope you have a good one x

I can send Mr Shortie over if you like? Does that mean I get the bed to myself

I have a rusty one I pop into my Dad's car when needed to get down the lottie (he has an estate car and I don't) and was thinking of a folding one until I read Two_Sheds' thread about hers collapsing full of manure, lol

Oh, Okay. Because I'm dead greedy....
I'd like a pair of size 7 RHS Rose Ankle Wellies, because mine have got a gaping hole in and the water keeps coming in and making my socks wet.
I'd like another pair of Felco No.4 Secateurs because I've lost two pairs now in the last 15 years and I miss them as much as my RHS Rose Ankle Wellies.
and I'd like a whole bottle of that half bottle of Champagne that Trousers and I shared in the four-poster bed on the morning of my 40th Birthday with breakfast.

scarey angel - I have those spiral things you hanker after. They are about £7.99 for three from a garden centre near Mrs. Hyphen-Hyphen.

It's mine in October, and the OH's in May - so we usually go away for both - long weekend/NYC etc. He's on t'internet as I type [on the laptop] looking for holidays in Frisco and other such places. I've got to get better before we book it though as I can't be ill again on holiday.

Lets hope he comes up with some good ideas!

My birthday next week, and Mr Sheds asked what I want.
"a bale of compost" I said.

                      'I'm not getting you that'
                      - but it's what I want
'That's not a present' (meaning: it's not what he'd want)
                      - but it's what I want

So it'll be another New Look voucher then. I must practise looking pleased

At the suggestion of home printed vouchers I had 'Okay that's fine but I want to be able to actaully BUY you something' When I said I'd be happy with just that rather than a CD I might not listen to, I was met with silence, whoops

I like to have practical things which I dont NEED. ( I'd be buying them anyway)
Extra bits and bobs which I'd love to have but can do without are what I'd go for.
Eg ....how about spare water butts - or a water redirector from a drainpipe or bathtub? ( guess what I'm hoping Santa will get me????)

                            Don't ask for much do I ???

Oh now there's a thought... Our lottie has piped water trough's so unless I can rig a hosepipe to it (not allowed) there's not much room for improvement there anyway.. but at home..... we're not on a water meter but I'm still very conscious of using water on my flowers. They get 2 good soaks when the annuals are first planted and left to stand on their own two feet after that. I I was using grey water I'd be much more generous. Oh, and when I've scrubbed potatoes, washed cabbage/lettuce or boiled eggs - that kind of thing - they get the water from that too.

Wellie: Do you have a link for those spiral things? I'd love to check them out and maybe add them to my wish list?
