hi,have found this plant in my freinds garden thought it was mint but smells nothing like mint,so please can somebody help with to what this is.thankyou

Looks like either an elder seedling or a hydrangea to me.

I keep pulliing the stuff out of our garden - turn my back for 2 seconds and it's back again. It's like the TRIFFIDS ..... .... or (for those trekkies amongst us) the BORG - resistance is futile .....

The good news is:
- It is in your friend's garden, and not yours
- Like all pernicious weeds if you dig it out and dig it out and dig it out it will become weaken in time. The aim is to keep on top of it and to appreciate the diversity of all mother nature's wonders - a weed is just a plant in the 'wrong' place, after all.Comment

However, as someone who likes a bright side to look upon - it has beautiful umbels of white flowers in summer - I'm letting a bit flower for a friends's wedding flowers.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

I would say that looks like an elder tree seedling. They grow like stink! I have some at the end of the garden, not particularly attractive but I use the flowers and berries for wine.Mad Old Bat With Attitude.

So the test will be, Sunnybird, is it a patch of lots of these plants - in which case it is ground elder - or is it one plant, which is growing strongly as a single plant - in which case it may be a seedling elder?Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?Comment
