(Whilst I was typing this, a spider let itself down on a thread right in my face!! Good thing it wasn't a big one! )

First I'll say hello and welcome to the vine

If you have somewhere frost free I'd say yes to planting potatoes now.
    Location....East Midlands.

I am going to plant my last ever batch this week, then. I have had some 'piddling' results with the other two varieties. So, I might as well have a last ditch attempt with the last lot

A cold frame is a good place to put them if you have one, failing that if you use a large-ish container that you can move inside somewhere if frost threatens.

Yes, plant them in a pot that you can move around like Burnie says. It's definitely possible, it's just whether you can keep them frost free and happy in a pot

If you have a green house or a poly tunnel then go for it. I have some chitting that I plan to grow in the poly tunnel for Christmas I will put them in when I harvest the current ones.

I planted a single leftover "venezia" a couple of weeks agao in a B&Q bucket with a hole in the bottom. The spud is growing away happily and I hope to have some nice new spuds with our Xmas lunch
