Newbie - just started. Is there anything I can plant in July?

Hi Richy, welcome to the vine!

That's what I started off with too - a plastic greenhouse. It soon fell apart, but my passion for growing veg had stuck long before

If you want a greenhouse on the cheap, keep an eye on the marketplace on Facebook. They often sell for very little, or even nowt!

I�m sure you�ll still be into growing things next year. Mostly because you�ve started with 2 of the most addictive things on the planet

(chillies & tomatoes).

There's still time to sow lots of things - July/August is a bit like a 2nd spring.
What would you like to grow? No point growing spinach or radish if you don't like eating them.

I generally agree with only growing what you like, but I've just been proven wrong. We were given some radish seeds from the allotment shop as a quick crop for the children to grow. I don't like radish, but thought we'd stick them it anyway, since we had space and they were a gift. Turns out that while I still don't like raw radish, roasted radish is my new favourite veg

I sowed radish for exactly that purpose, to try them roasted! Turns out I don't mind them so much raw anymore! haha I must try harder

Try slicing and pickling them.
Two parts vinegar (white wine is best, but cider or just white vinegar will do), one part water, one part sugar. Put the radish slices in a clean jar, bring the vinegar mix to the boil, and pour it over them until the jar is full. Leave them in the fridge for at least four days before eating them.
For best results, you should salt the radish slices for an hour or so first, to draw out some of the water, then wash the salt off afterwards, but this isn't strictly necessary and can be skipped,

I don't like raw radishes, either, but I love them pickled. And they make the vinegar go a pretty pink colour, which also soaks into the inner flesh of the radish and dyes them a uniform pink.

I went back to the garden centre and bought a few more things.
Carrots, courgettes, yellow zucchinis, beetroot, more tomatoes(but a different type) and asparagus.

I spoke to the woman at the garden centre who said they�ll all be ok for this year, except the asparagus.

Does anyone grow berrys in a greenhouse? I saw some thornless raspberries and blueberry bushes whilst there.

Hi Richy from another newbie. I�ve not been posting yet as I�m trying to get my garden and poly tunnel in order. Just got my rasberry hedge in at the weekend, all 17 plants all grown from my old stock that I took out last autumn.
I�m growing spuds in my poly tunnel and they are about 18� high in the raised beds.

Planting second crop potatoes now will be ready come end of October. If you plant them in August then they'll last till November and maybe until Xmas if you can keep the ground from freezing.

No, I wouldn't grow raspberries or blueberries in the greenhouse.
They are hardy and will grow perfectly outdoors.

Newbie as well but if you want to try a cabbage have a look at Spring Hero. Also many kale varieties still okay to sow
