  • Let's talk sprouts!

    I'm after variety advice
The last two years I've grown Montgomery and best f1. Both been brilliant. But this year I used the last of the seeds. I can find Montgomery again but I can't find best f1. Don't remember which company they came from, I throw the packet away.......it was empty .
Gooooogling "Brussels sprouts best" produces some very frustrating results
I also tried early half tall this year. Not overly impressed. Yes they were early, yes they were half tall ( or as I say... Short! ), but the actual sprouts were tiny! I've seen bigger peas
Any varieties I should be trying?

Do you want a packet of Brest sprouts? I have 3 (that sounds a bit odd!)

Save your stamp, SP. Some day I'll want something you're growing
I'll send you some Montgomery and a couple of others too as I have lots of sprouts and I'll never grow them all
This year I'm trying Trafalgar, Cascade and Revenge (which I think is a great name for a sprout.) Can't tell you which is best as none of them are labelled - or have sprouts yet!

Brilliant VC thank you so much.
You just shout if you ever want anything I'm growing! Can't really see that ever happening because you grow EVERYTHING!!!
so still feel a bit guilty about freebies

              You're a lovely lovely chicken !

VC Revenge are excellent spouts, I've grown then in the past, this year I've grown six varieties but it's been a bad year for micro snails so just how many I'm going to have at the end of the day is debatable see Alans Allotment: Sowing Brussel Sprouts for the varieties. I'm trying to extend the growing season and I'm just waiting for the first frost before harvesting the first batch.

SP, look what I've found http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...uts_88447.html and you called them "Best" in that thread too

Thanks Cad - some votes for Revenge in that thread too.

Found another thread I started about sprouts http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ths_82312.html
Seems I've been rabbiting on about growing them for years and still haven't succeeded in picking a decent leg of sprouts.

Ha ha brilliant! Spell it wrong once, spell it wrong forever!
It's thanks to that thread and the advice BB gave, that I can now grow spouts not stunting but edible, which'll do for me !

2018 - the Year of the Sprout

                            Let's do it
Would you believe I have 18 different types of sprouts? Some are ancient and probably beyond hope. Won't stop me sowing them however.
February seems to be the start of the sowing season - or should I start now?

Just had a look at your list Cad. I was quite surprised to see only to varieties that I've not grown before Cromwell and Bedford. I thought I'd led a sheltered life when it comes to sprout varieties!
I've never had great success with Evesham or Rubine. That's probably more me than them.
