  • First Frost?

I went to the lottie this morning to plant in some raspeberry bushes, and noitce on the walk to my plot that some people's courgettes looked as if they had been frosted. Not all, just a few. When I got to mine, the courgettes tooked fine, but the sweet potatoes were all wilted and curled. Seems early, but then the garden is untouched, so maybe other years the fields have been caught about the same time, I just didn't notice.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

it was down to 4C last night according to the greenhouse thermometer but I wasn't up early enough to see if it was frosty ....it was certainly cold enough *shiver*
The house didn't start to warm up til lunchtime, so sat in the greenhouse to read the paper this morning

(It's ok, the neighbours know I'm mad )

Was out at midnight last night (trip to the vets - not partying!) It was 2C in places and when I made the same trip this morning at 8am the fields were frosty in the same cold spot by the river.

My greenhouse temp had gone down to 3.9c and the water on the bird table was froze so I'm glad I picked my one pumpkin yesterday.

              2C here last night.
Ice on top of the geese's water bucket.
Nasturtiums and courgette/squash plant leaves all gone squishy- we've spent all day pulling the plants and taking the final crops/seeds.

...been an absolute stonker of a day though -utterly brill!

No idea what it went down to last night, but we had a good frost. Very chilly again here, now that the sun has gone down.

me last of the outdoor tomatoes got clobbered last night/early morning

So I consoled myself by planting my garlic, feels good putting something in instead of taking something out

5.3 degrees here last night, and we're right on the coast so it was probably colder inland.

I use a mix of six scoops of compost three scoops of sand/grit and two scoops of perlite, the quantity is unimportant as long as the ratio is the same, if for seeds I use this mix, if I am potting on I add some blood, fish and bone, along with a small quantity of chicken manure pellets
