  • Challenge - Grow Radish with me in 2015

Radish is such an easy veggie to grow! It must be as all the experts tell you they are
I don't think I've ever grown a decent radish - they're either too small, woody, misshapen, or holey
If you have the same problems, join me in a 2015 Challenge, as I have a cunning plan. Stolen shamelessly from BigMallly's Potato thread, I'm going to grow radish, every week of the year.

    The Plan is:-
Sow one container of radish every week, and pick them after 3 or 4 weeks (not sure how long they take to mature). I'm going to use a "family pack" mushroom container which is 3" deep and about 10" x 6" but any deepish container would do. You'll need 4.

Going to start this tomorrow. Will you join me?

I will join you from the weekend, does variety matter or is it just radishes?

It's a bit cold - are you growing them indoors or in a GH?

          Endless wonder.

Sounds like a plan, GL. I'll do that too while its cold outside. I could fit them on a windowsill indoors if necessary.

I`ll give it a try, are you growing them under cover of fleece, frame or greenhouse or are you going as nature intended
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

I meant open with no cover.
Trust you to think something else, and it`s too cold to go out after dark

Sorry to put a dampener on your enthusiasm but, 3 inch deep not deep enough, you will need at least 6 inches deep and there is not enough day light at this time of year.

Over the years I have found that a cut down Morrison flower bucket to be a great container for radish. So go through your MFBs and any with a split rim are perfect candidates.

I grow French Breakfast 3"....more radish for the space used, set the seed in circles about 1 inch apart, you should get about 30 seeds per container.

Yes you will get some failures, skinny, weak or no show but the majority will produce lovely fresh radish.

And seeing as we are in a frivolous mood leave the gnome to the rear of pic 3 out off the conversation LOL

How many weeks do they take to grow into something edible?
