  • 50p Seeds?

    Hi all,

This is not a promise of cheap seeds.........however, in each of the last 2 years at my local 'Garden centre group' garden centre, around now (as with lots of online seed merchants) they usually drop their seeds to 50% off. Then according to my diary of the last 2 years on 30th August they have dropped all prices to 50p.

My plan at the moment is to try to look at planning for next year, then on 30th Aug (or very soon thereafter), pop along to my local to have a good browse at hopefully hundreds of packs of seeds, and pick out a big pile of bargain seeds (including F1's like cucs and toms) for 50p a pack instead of the £2-3 normal price.
The more help a man has in his garden, the less it belongs to him.

Thanks for the reminder!! They're irresistible at 50p - but I really must control myself this year

      Yep!

The good ol' 50p a pack scramble!

Last year my friends and I went along, pulled up some chicken manure pellet buckets to sit on and settled down for about an hour of trawling through the packs!

Much fun was had by us and many a snooty look from passing customers too!

That's the day that I usually meet with VVG for a coffee, and we have a rummage and furtle together.

I wonder if our local Wyevale still do this. I remember a few years ago getting a pile of seeds @ 50p a pack from there..... Worth a look I guess

I'm sure they will - Carmarthen and Cardiff both do

Swansea do too (enterprise park) - I raided them last year.

That's the one Chris. We'll be having a scrap over curcubits on the 30th then will we?

I'll be after some crown prince, so if there's only two packs left, grab me one if you get there before me please

I'll probably be there around 12 odd. The grub is expensive there, but the jacket spuds are lovely Often have lunch there! (I work literally around the corner from it).

Certainly, if there is anything else you particularly want let me know as I should be in a position to get there fairly early doors. I have set a reminder in my phone, now, before I forget - done.

Paulieb good idea re: list. Very good idea. You are the definition of organised and I am going to copy your example. Otherwise, I will go on the 30th and not leave with anything that I need.

Not had food there for a few years. I had a rather disappointing bacon sandwich. It was microwaved from pre cooked bacon (probably 2008/9). It must have improved. I live up near Junction 46 of the M4 (in a permanent structure).

Wilko's sorted me out with some packs of turnip and cabbage seed (not organic though) for 15p each pack about a month ago. I'm planting them just for the rabbit patch and at that price feel I can't go wrong. They also had 50p Lavendar seed and viola's so I snatched those too and they are all up in their pots now though won't come in properly till next year I reckon.

The OP's list and diary thing sounds way more civilised than my grab what I can method ... but I will keep a good look out in readiness for next year. Thank you for the apt reminder

I'll pop in for a proper bacon sarnie then. Though I live Junction 32 way

I'm lucky to get bacon, in fact - I see it so rarely that it causes panic. What jobs does she want done this time?
