Chilli Jam or Chilli Chutney Recipe Needed
Hi All
As per the title, do any of you have a tried and tested recipe.
We recently went to a food fair and purchased some chilli jam. The ingredients included :- Tomatoes, Chillis, possibly onions, star anise, garlic, possibly cinnamon.
It would be nice to get something similar as we have polished off the jar, and washed the label off.
I have a lot of Jalapenos (and other chillis) growing, and it would be nice to use them.
I have searched the vine and im sure a recipe exists but I cant find one.

Chilli Pepper Jelly from River Cottage Preserves:
750g red bell peppers
100g Jalapeno or other chillies
50g root ginger
350ml cider vinegar
1kg jam sugar with added pectin
50ml lime juice (1 - 2 limes)
1 level teaspoon salt
Slice peppers and chillies in half and remove fibrous tissue and seeds. Chop the peppers, chillies and root ginger finely or blitz in food processor. Place in a large pan, add the vinegar and slowly bring to a simmer. Add the sugar, lime juice and salt and stir until the sugar has dissolved. Bring to a boil, and boil for 4 - 6 minutes. Remove from heat, leave to cool and pour into clean, sterilised jars.
I have requests for this from my granddaughter aged 11. Can't make enough of it.
BTW this is an excellent book IMHO.Last edited by rustylady; 13-08-2010 at 11:43 AM.

Ooooh, controvertially I need to disagree with all and categorically state that Sarah Raven's Chilli Jam is the absolute best. Problem is I haven't got the recipe on me (I'm at work). I 'll post it next week...

I made this one (although added quite a few more chillies for my own taste) posted by Two Sheds, really good.
Tomato Chilli Chutney
400ml Red wine vinegar
400g Brown sugar
16 ripe tomatoes cut into chunks
2 red onions chopped
4 red chillis de-seeded and chopped
Juice of a lime or lemon
handful of coriander leaves, shredded (optional)
Boil sugar and vinegar together.
Add tomatoes, onion and chilli.
Cook for 40 mins until soft and thick.
Remove from heat, let cool a bit, then add juice and coriander.
