  • Poorly Chicken

today one of our chickens seems to have just given up she has been picked on since we brought them all home (they are ex-bats) she won't drink or eat and looks like her breathing is very heavy also all she seems to do is sleep

we separated her from the rest of the chickens but we are not sure what we can do to help her and none of the vets near us are open on a Sunday

    EDIT:
she has no balance now and also she keeps putting her head back and falling over

    EDIT 2:
spoke to an emergency vet looks like she won't make it through the night

Sounds like you have done the right thing separating her - take her to the vets tomorrow.

Chickens instinctively know when one of the flock is ill and their reaction is to drive them out by bullying - nature's way of keeping illness away from the others.

Ex-batts have a hard life and not all are capable of recovering after their ordeal in the cages. At least you gave her a chance.

Oh blimey! One of my wee chicks did that, its quite upsetting isnt it. But at least she was with you and not in a cage.

EDIT - sorry my post before this one just crossed with yours.
