  • Slowcooker - Vegetarian viewpoint

    Evening Grapes.

We're thinking of getting a slowcooker; whilst we love cooking from scratch it would be nice every now and then to come home to a cooked meal.

However, we don't eat meat - and so we don't know whether veggie meals would be suitable for a slow cooker.

I have seen lots of recipes, but wondered if anyone on here is veggie and also uses one - before we splash out on one.

    Any ideas?

I can't see why not to be honest, you wouln't have to be there watching it. They are handy for steaming your Christmas puds and stuff as well

I'm all for labour/energy saving, but I can't see how a slow-cooker would help me (omg I just worked it out - veggie for 22 years)

I cook in bulk and freeze in portions, then just nuke and dinner's done in 3 mins

I have a tiny freezer and no microwave

My main worry is that the flavour of cooked stuff won't be there, as usually the slow cooking of the onions and peppers will give alot of the flavour to the finished dish.

Plus, I get in some days 6, 7 or 8pm....and it would be lovely just to tuck in and not start cooking then.

zaz, my daughter is a veggie and we eat quite a lot of veggie meals. I LOVE my slow cooker and would be lost without it. I chuck stuff in first thing in the morning and when everyone gets home, it's ready just to shove out on the plates........wouldnt be without one.

                  hope this helps?

also great for soup and xmas puddings as others have said.

go for it, you'll be amazed how much you use one

No, I'd want Mr Z to be able to cook some pasta or rice, serve his and then pop some pasta or rice on for when I get in the door and serve mine up.

I'd not trust him with a pressure cooker.....

Go on Zaz ..........you know you want to . Even if you're in a couple of hours after Mr Z has eaten the food just still be ok and not dried out as if it had been left in the oven.
