  • Thieves on the plot

Went up to the plot yesterday evening and found out that I've had visitors in the shed. Don't keep anything much of value up there and leave it unlocked so I won't get damage with anybody breaking in so nothing to stop anybody going in. Anyway, it's still not nice but interesting to see what they've had, seems to be 2 cheapo old plastic garden chairs, a B&Q orange bucket (AKA the loo), an old spade, an old fork and a bin bag of chicken poo.

Interestingly enough, they left the thing of most value where it was (I checked VERY quickly) which was a pack of totally unopened enviromesh which I'd left up there by accident. Took it home with me afterwards in case they realised and went back last night.

On a plus point, they didn't walk on the beds or do any damage to the crops but maybe that's to come

Oh what horrible news - nothing is safe.

it is times like that when you hope they stick their hands in the bag of poo to see what is in there

Oh, that's awful Alison I bet you're so glad you hadn't left any decent tools there. Has anyone else on the site had anything taken?

How horrible for you...and what totally bizarre things for them to have taken!!!??
If it's any consolation,we've had a couple of petty break ins(I don't mean petty as in not much to you,but what the value of stuff stolen would be to them!),but it's never been followed up by trashing the plot!So hopefully, horrid as it is they've invaded your shed & taken stuff, they won't be back!

The fact they stole chicken poo sounds like they are on your plot. You could get a nice BIG bag of manure in a strong bag and add a whole bottle of the worst weed killer you can find and leave that by the shed. Then see who's crop fails.

Dunno about anybody else as there was nobody up there last night but it gives good weather this weekend so I expect it'll be busy then and I can find out. We're thinking of getting a lockable chest and putting it behind the shed with anything we'd be annoyed to lose (I know the tools we lost weren't worth much but they still need replacing and it's handy to have them up there when I cycle up).

I had an trespasser on my plot a few weeks ago. I don't have a shed or anything and I leave my tools out, under some nettles. Whoever it was just pulled up a load of my immature onions and made off with them!

It's so disappointing when things like that happen, so pointless.

I'm of the same school of thought as NOG......

Not sure it was anybody on the plot, think it's more likely that they took the poo cos it was in a plastic container on top of the plastic chairs that they took but like your style, although would have to bring myself to buy weed killer as it's not something I normally use and would have to remember not to use the poo myself!

We had an intruder on our site the other day. He appeared next to me out of nowhere (having nipped over a fence from the housing estate) and when I challenged him he said he was "just taking a short cut love".

                      Likely story.

And today ... the lady opposite was burgled this morning, while we were both at work.

Alison that's really horrible for you, but I'm with NOG - think I'd have to give the weedkiller a go!

Sorry to hear that Alison. We've had watering cans and spades taken so we don't leave anything at the allotment anymore. The police did find the culprit though who lived nearby and his shed was full spades and watering cans! Strange things to collect.

Just despicable Alison. I can't understand why people would make thieves of themselves for such small gain. You must feel quite hurt and betrayed by the people around you.
