  • is GYO survey email genuine?

    hi,

i received an email from 'GYO' saying thank you for completing the online survey but due to a technical problem they've lost all my info except for my email address, and then asked me to click on a link to re-do the survey.

it may be perfectly genuine and safe but i am all too aware of phishing emails pretending to be from somewhere else.

can a moderator confirm or deny this email is legitimate, if it is then i will re-do the survey if not, oh dear!

    thanks

p.s didnt know where else to post this

A moderator can't....and an admin probably could.....you might be better off sending an email to them and asking. Go to the front forum page, and click on 'forum leaders' down the bottom and choose one of the admins....I'd suggest Paul.....but don't expect a response until next week as I'm not sure what time they knock off on a friday.

I filled it in again without thinking. All the stuff was the same as last time and the links brought me right back to here so I guessed it was legit.

You don't have to click the link on the email, you can come onto the GYO website and follow a link from there. I think it's genunine tho as a few of us have got them!

Not to worry, I did what Shirley did and followed all the links round, it appeared genuine enough to me, so I filled it in again.

Another one here. I was going to post the same question.

Will wait till there's a response. Had enough trouble with me Yahoo account getting wotsited!

my email went into junk, but I came to the site both ways, links looked the same to me.

The safest way is not to bother with surveys to much info wanted besides i do not not want my email box filled with junk it may be anti social but there it is .
The modern way is that people seem to want to tell every body every thing i am old fashioned but that is the way i was brought up....jacob

                      Hi everyone,

Last week GYO magazine sent an email to the people who were kind enough to fill out our online survey. As Potboy said, an unfortunate technical blip had wiped out much of the information we had received. The staff here had hoped you would all be willing to fill in the survey for a second time – we'd like to use your feed back to make the mag even better!

We know how important it is to protect personal data so if you feel there is any chance you've received an email that isn't genuine please don't enter your details!

                      Regards,

                      Sara

I filled it in without thinking too & then got a bit worried when I came on here & saw others were questioning it. Glad to hear that it was genuine & hope you get all the info., I think you might have got mine twice as I seem to remember sending in the 'paper' format one from the magazine also!

thanks for the reply, i thought it was probably ok but you cant be too careful these days, i used to receive emails from my bank that looked exactly the same as the genuine ones, even when you clicked on a link it would take you to a site which was a direct copy of my bank, very clever but also very worrying, it just makes you question everything these days, sad!
