    Question for French Grapes...

    How are you getting on with the fuel shortages?

    so far we're fine (although we've had no milk in the shop for the past couple of days)
    Got 1,000 litre fioul and 4 stares of wood
    2 cars 3/4 full of petrol

    If it continues though I doubt we'll be able to hire a van in a couple of weeks to bring back a pile of our stuff from storage in the UK

    Get a Diesel car, and brew yer own. Mr. G. runs his Landy partly on used Chip Oil. Saves a bit of money, and it runs better too.

      Topped up with petrol yesterday, although we were only allowed 30 litres, which just filled our tank.
      The problem is that if Mrs TK gets lots of apointments then a tank of fuel soon goes.
      Let's hope it resolves itself soon.

          Yep, totally legal. As long as you do less than a certain amount of miles a year. Sorry, can't remember how many it is! Over that mileage, you have to declare it, and pay the duty.

            KK has just gone to Paris to collect the grandpuppies whilst DD is on holiday and has managed to get petrol at the Centre France Aire. He said there was no one in front of him and no sign of a shortage. Otherwise, here in the sticks we are not really affected. I think that KK might find it a bit different in Paris though

              Spoke to Mme P last night and she get it was getting pretty difficult where we live.
              The local Ecomarche now has no fuel. In the big town of Chateaubriant, its been 30Euro limit since before I came back to work, and stocks are apparently getting short.
              Work wise there have been plenty flights delayed or cancelled in and out of France to Algeria, so its affecting outside L'Hexagon as well.

                I forgot to say that the petrol pre-manifestations was about 1.30 euro per litre it has been creeping up and in our nearest town it is now 1.46 and when KK got some today, admittedly on the auto-route, he had to pay 1.56

                  There have been longish queues here so I'm quite relieved that I'm off work for the moment I have about a 30 min drive to work so the petrol goes fast. Mr P has managed to fill up without too much trouble.

                            When we are working just about every day, that wouldn't be enough for our annual mileage. Just now with less work coming in, it just might do it, although I gather that the chip-oil bio-diesel isn't suitable for a lot of modern diesel engines (I may have misunderstood this bit).

                              AFAIK you can convert any diesel to run on biofuel - but someone correct me if I am wrong!

                              A freind simply has a diesel family car, and in summer uses around 1/3 diesel and 2/3 oil and in winter around 50/50 (you need a bit more diesel in winter to help the engine start apparently) but this is running the car with some diesel still. He says he didn't have to do any conversion, just change the fuel filter a bit more often. He is a mechanic BTW. I also know someone running a van entirely off chip oil, it is cheap but his van stinks of a fish and chip shop

                              Good luck to everyone in France - I hope the fuel shortage isn't too long. However I think some of the apathetic whingers in this country could learn a lot from our nieghbours when it comes to disagreeing with the government haha!
