  • New Job (v. excited), but I need your help gang!!

    Okay....

I was following my OH out of the R&D department at hometime last night. We walked past the MD's office and said 'Goodnight Tom'.
Tom looked up from his computer and said 'Errr Rebecca, can I have a quick word?'
'Oh dear, have I got a P45 shaped letter?'
'No, not at all...I've been thinking about you a lot lately...'

    ALARM BELLS

'You do a fantastic job on Reception, you are always thinking ahead and don't have to be asked to do anything because you've already done it, but I think you're a bit wasted out there. I would like you to be my PA.'

'Errr...what about your current PA? Has she got a P45 shaped letter??'

'Nope, she's going to be our HR manager. I'll write you a formal offer letter, I want you to start on January 1st and you'll get a payrise.'

'I get one of those too? Crikey!'

I'm dead pleased, I really like our MD (he lets me build gardens and design ladies loos ), but he says he probably won't have enough work to keep me busy fulltime, so I may have to go and help managers with their admin and stuff occasionally.

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to give me the second half of my new job title, based on the 'occasional' other work I'll have to do.

So I'll be: 'PA to the MD and..............'

(There may be a small prize for the winner from my seed collection )

I'd just stick with that title- you are then 'loaned out' when he doesn't need you.
Too many bosses and you'll be clashing with yourself- and probably doing more than a full time job in the same time period.

Congrats by the way- it's brill when someone recognises your skills- well done!

Cant think of a job title right now, will get back to you on this one.

      Well done :-)

Hello - please let us wish you congrats first!!!

        CONGRATS - that's brilliant.

        There.

Now, what we need is someone with imagination about these things.

I agree with Nicos on this one - you need to watch out as it sounds like you could become PA to the boss ... and general factotum! (always a painful role)
Seriously though - well done and well deserved I'm sure!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Unfortunately he says I've 'got' to come up with a second half. He's sent me away to think about it.

I'm not sure 'PA to the MD...and general admin occasionally' really cuts it.

                    Firstly, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Secondly.... I am a Director's PA, Divisional Officer, Finance Officer and IT rep, and I still just call myself PA. However, based on some of the 'adminstration' job titles here, I've picked a few out... (though they are quite boring ones...)

                    Senior Executive Assistant
                    Senior Executive Officer
                    Director's Assistant
                    Executive Assistant
                    Administrative Officer

I could be had up for misrepresentation with that one! I'm so unco-ordinated it's not true. On the company Health and Safety records, all the 'trips and falls' recorded in the Accident book over the last two years have been me, and some of them fairly spectacular!!

Like the time I slipped on a wet floor and ripped my trousers in a very terminal manner

Or the time I was carrying the lunch into a client meeting and tripped over the clients laptop cable and landed on my knees!! Though the lunch was completely unharmed and I didn't spill a drop of orange juice either!!
