  • Marestail growing in my compost bin!

    Hi all,
this morning I opened up my second compost bin which I've been letting rot down for the last 6 months or so, and I found a reasonable amount of marestail had found its way in there!

Am I ok to empty this bin of compost, cut back the marestail as deeply as possible and then just start the bin again, or do I need to throw out all the compost in case of spores?

    Here's a pic:

I would fork it over and pull out as much as possible, rather than cutting it. Then I'd leave it open so that if there's any left, it starts growing and can be pulled out, and carry on that until there is no more

Thanks. I do have quite a marestail problem in mine and my neighbours' gardens, but it's good to know that I can continue to use this compost eventually.
