What Have my tomato plants got?

Hopefully I have managed to get a pic of the leaf of one of my tomato plants on here.. The leaf seems to all of a sudden got lots of these brown spots on the top side and seems to have gone a bit brittle.. .. a few other leaves are the same .. can anyone help?

Hello Alan, I find spots like this on my tomatoes and potatoes. I've never found it makes any difference to the crop. But see what others think.

I find the same as Alice. It tends to happen on the lower leaves, but if you see it spreading to new growth, use a fertiliser.

I think it's old age (the leaf, not you!) I wouldn't worry about it.

Hi allyspark,

I was worried about the very same leaf markings on my greenhouse tomatoes two years ago, and I sought advice from a respectable garden centre some miles away. It is a tricky subject, but the outcome was that more potash was needed. If you have an available source of dry woodash, sprinkle that onto the soil in addition to your regular liquid Tomato Feed? Sorry to be so vague, but it did seem to help my plants.

Did it make any difference to the tomatoes Wellie ? I find these markings are just unsightly on the leaves, and I'm sure if we want to delve into the biochemistry we can find a cause, but I find it makes no difference to the fruits. Did you find a difference ?

I had a few like this on my outdoor toms this year & at first sight I thought 'oh no it's blight' but it doesn't look exactly the same & I think it is probably due to some deficiency or weather conditions. I just pulled off the affected leaves & the rest of the plant is fine.

No, it was just a 'leaf thing'.... the fruits were truly scrumptious!
