  • what's your worst weed???

mine has got to be that horrible sticky weed thing that spreads like mad - I think its also called cleavers? vile, nasty, bright green, you can pull out the top growth quite easily but the roots are just lurking beneath...

We always called it Goosegrass as well. Great fun to throw at people when they weren't looking. Mine is split between Bind weed that seems to have appeared last year on my plot & Docks that spread from the 2 neighbouring plots that are (or rather were) un occupied.

Up here it's called "sticky willies" - have some in garden but not too much. My main weeds are shepherds purse, dandelion (I blame Iona's nursery for teaching them how to tell the time by blowing seed heads), hedge bindweed and grape hyacinths

My worst weed is GROUND ELDER aaaarrrrgggghhhh Never ever buy a house with ground elder in the garden - I have been fighting it for eight years now and it is still defeating me. Any tiny little piece of root left magically becomes a massive network of the stuff. Even neat glyphosate painted onto leaves does nothing! I saw some for sale in a garden centre once and nearly nuked the place.......

Bindweed, couch grass and plants that I have lovingly planted and hoed out because they look like weeds

I was thinking of taking some ground elder to the plant swap bit at Gardeners World Live last year but wasn't sure what Monty would say
