young sunburst cherry tree needs help.

I have a young miniture sunburst cherry tree, and this is the first year of it blooming and it has got young leaves on it, but today i noticed this on the leaves..

Hi Nikki

I am experiencing similar symptoms. The leaves on four of the six small branches on my tree have withered and turned brown in colour, did you get any response re your first posting?

I have been troubled by peach leaf curl but that is on my peach tree of course! The leaves look very similar, though and I wonder if it is a related problem.
At the moment the Grapevine is experiencing some problems and our regular fruit tree experts may not be able to get online but I'm sure someone will be along soon.

My guess is that it's frost nipped.
There are a few fine threads on one of the picices- indicating spiders - but I can't see that they'd do that sort of damage.

I'd go for frost.
( ps- I'm most certainly NOT one of the fruit experts!!!!!)

thank you for you help, sorry to say that this is now happening to all my trees
and the cherry tree is now bare of leaves...

hello mate, yes it is deffinately a sunburst cherry tree, my plum, apple and now my pair tree are the same..

How strange.. If your apple is as you say, post for the attention of FB in the feeling fruity forum with pictures of your apple tree (along with others), rootstock information, soil type and I guess variety.

He's extremely knowledgeable, and posts more often than not in the fruit forum.

I know this is the correct place, but I'm willing to bet he'll know the answer. I'll take the flak from the mods for you

The small and browning leaves look like there's not enough water and nutrients getting from the roots to the tree.
Could it be that the trees are newly planted and their roots are not established?
This would be made worse by this being one of the mildest and one of the lowest rainfall years I can recall.

Are the trees on very dwarf roots, which aren't as efficient at grabbing water and nutrients?

Is there a canker on the stem, or some kind of bark damage which is cutting off the water and nutrient flow?

Is your soil too acid or alkaline, which could cause the roots to not work properly?

Did you feed them so much with strong fertiliser (especially manure or home-made compost) that their roots have been acid-burned by the fertiliser?
