  • Spud issue

    Hi All

First time at spuds, had three different types and these ones have come out a bit funny, well some of them have.

Any ideas what this is and are they safe to eat, should I remove the skin?

    Thanks

Howdy. Not sure what causes that but are they Red Duke of York by any chance as mine looked exactly the same. Still cook up lovely and store just fine (meant to say I've eaten the with and without skin, although after a bit of boiling, the skins got a bit too loose so I'd say steam 'em).

looks like scab. Perfectly safe to eat, just cut or peel it off

Thanks for the replies, I eat these spuds on Saturday and they tasted great.

Hopefully next year they will look good to. Whats the best way to make sure the scab does not effect them again?

Scab thrives in alkaline soil - are you growing in tubs or the ground?
did you lime the soil?.... if so- don't lime next time!

I got this on one of my potatoes and posted it a couple of weeks ago.
The verdict was that it's scab, but it seems quite different in the way the left one has wart-type spots and the left-hand one has it covering the whole potato like yours.
