Weevils??!!

Nasty white wiggly things in a pot with a not surprisingly dead geranium. What can I do with them and the soil? Would composting the lot be ok? Assuming the heat in the bin would kill them?

Just dont want the little beggers going anywhere else

Stamp on them, squish them if you don't get all the eggs which are too small for the naked eye to see...you'll never get rid of the flipping things with out using nematode's. I wouldn't risk putting them on the compost heap.

Ain't that the truth. The little blighters seem immune to almost anything. I have lost plants this last winter which have survived for years on my balcony thanks to the cold. Yet it hasn't affected these children of Satan.

I've spent the whole day re-potting because of these pests. The chooks love them though.

My strawberries were infested when I dug in new compost, damn the little perishers! Squished all that I found and have only lost two plants, but I've ordered and am awaiting my weevil and slug nematodes any day now.

Now I am having a worrying thought. Could these little darlings be developing a resistance to the chemical treatment?

Last year I treated my pots with the max dose for the max amount of time allowed by the instructions. I have lost both my 15 year old acer, my new grape vine, twisted willow and a couple of mixed planters to these things.

As the chemical is not meant to just kill them on contact but also protect the plant systemically, and it was my first sap sucking insect free year, it makes me wonder on how long these treatments will be effective.

i managed to save my herb container just in time from the little blighters! however my strawberries just shrivelled up and died. im gutted. the strawberry plants were my first thing i had grown .

however most of my fruit and veg is grown in pots so i'm worried that all of them will get infected. do they infest pots year after year?

They have been known to re-infest year after year, most other pest's are just an inconvenience, but these little sods are a pain in the bum. Some years seem to be worse than other's.

i went to the garden centre today and the only weevil killer i could see cudnt be used on edibles! does anyone know of something that can be used on edibles and will get rid of the little blighters!!!
