Slugs - what are the options?

I have just read a thread about being organic/non organic/semi organic posted in 2006/7 and decided I fit in the semi category - I don't spray with bug repellent -I don't like it and my son disappears in the raspberry cage and eats what is ripe straight from the bushes or eats the beans off the canes - BUT I am getting fed up with losing things to the dreaded slugs - so what are the options? Organic and semi organic preferably (I can't go around squishing them either ....!)
