  • Quick larva/worm/grub id please

Hi there, I'm just digging up some soil to make a raised bed and found this grub/larva/worm thing.

Can anyone tell me what it is and if I need to be concerned?

    It's about 1.5" long.

    Thanks!

Looks like a leatherjacket to me - larvae of the crane-fly (daddy long legs)

I just put them on a tray for the birds

Its a leather jacket, the birds love em.

Dont panic too much, they just nibble on soft roots, preferably grass.

you will never get rid of them all, like slugs unless you see the damage or pest you will never know they are there.

So should I be worried that I have quite a few of these in my raised vegetable beds?

There's an awful lot of legs got to come out of that thing after it pupates!
