An old guy here in work has told me to use copper tape around the sides of my new raised veg beds to keep slugs an snails away. I have never heard of this method before. So my question is " has anyone used it and does it work ? " before I go out and buy some.

Hi ya, I went down that route this summer and bought some from ebay, it did work to a degree, although the slugs climbed up the growth that was touching the ground and in from neighbouring plants, would use it again it did help though not 100% , also you are suppossed to keep in clean and polished !! there are a couple of vidoes on you tube of slugs on copper tape if your bored ! I made some collars cutting rings of guttering down pipe and sticking a band of copper tape round near the top.
As Beaufontboy said it works to a degree, at least it stopped the slugs eating the young plants.
This coming season I will make up more and try it more extensively,I am certain that the day my boat comes in, I'll be at the airport.
