  • grey dagger caterpillar

    i have just found a very colourfull caterpillar on our cherry tree. it is a grey dagger moth should i leave it or move it. will it damage the tree.

    hindsight is a wonderful thing but foresight is a whole lot better

    A quick google search says that the caterpillars feed on many types of tree and shrub including; birch, lime and hawthorn. I'd remove it.

      If there's only one then I would be kind and leave it. How much damage can one caterpillar do? I wouldn't be as kind to the thousands of cabbage white caterpillars who are marauding over my lottie brassicas at the moment though.
