Pepper bargains

Time for pepper plants. It's right at the end of the season so a lot are on offer. Perfect to overwinter, or at least self pollinate for seeds.

I repot in one gallon ice cream tubs I get for free from work. Most restaurants will have loads spare.

Most issues with the reduced peppers can be resolved by repotting into a larger pot.

Got these in the last week. 50p each.

Aji lemon x1
Jalape�o x2
Hot banana x1
Scotch bonnet x2
Thai dragon x1
Samba orange x1
Samba yellow x1



The aji lemon Is great, new shoots since repotting and around 10-15 peppers.
The sambas, while ornamental, are hot but the heat seems to go very quickly. After a couple of minutes you wouldn't know you'd eaten anything hot.

Not bad for a couple of quid. The lemon drop and scotch bonnet both over winter well for me. I'm not sure I would bother with the Jalepeano as they are pretty quick to start from seed and overwintering chillies really is hit and miss....I also find the more plants I try to get through ŵinter the more likely I am to get aphids.
Thai dragon and the sambas are f1s so possibly not worth trying to save seed from them.

Was just gonna self save the seed from the Jalepeno. Bit of a ...........to overwinter but I normally just stick it in a pot in the window, keep the soil moist ish and see what happens when spring comes around. Got the Sambas to pickle and see what they taste like. Gonna save the seed and see if anything comes of it. Don't expect a lot at all but meh. Lemon drops my favourite as I've wanted one for a while. Was wary of the Thai dragon but was a really healthy looking plant and just thought I'd go for it. If it doesn't overwinter nothing lost, just want some tasty chillies in the meantime.
