Best disinfectant

What's the best thing to use for pots/seed trays which may have been contaminated by mice (maybe even rats? ) as they've been sitting in an unopened shed for several years.... Help!

Would have thought hot soapy water would do but await correction from the expert gardeners. Wear rubber gloves though!

Hot soapy water would be fine - although rats etc carry loads of nasty diseases etc, things like Weils disease won't last long after the urine has dried (sorry I work in sewage, we have to go on courses for this sort of thing!). As with anything dirty, make sure you give it a good scrub and then clean your hands properly before you touch your face, food, anything else!

So do I srodders! I thought it was just me. When I've given the greenhouse its spring cleaning I make excuses to go in there! I'm the same with the pelleted chicken poo too. Sad, innit?

Tesco do a good ecofriendly disinfectant.

YOu could always add some tea tree and oregano oil. Or failing that some Red Thyme.

I would say dont worry about it, these days everyone is too clean. Afew germs will do you good, but only a few.
I have a new allotment and there has been rats under a chicken shed which has now been removed, and look at what people put in the soil.
Nothing wrong with keeping things clean, but no need to go overboard.
