What do slugs prefer?

I have watched many a program, read many a book and heard many tips on setting slug traps.

A common method is setting beer traps but i wonder what do they prefer Lager or Bitter

Im a lager fan myself and there is no way they are having my carling

i've tried larger bitter and guinness and they seem to like them all i think all slugs need to join A.A lol

We tried Tesco value bitter, the slugs didn't mind but your friends get nervous when they see the cans!!!

Mine get drunk on Tesco's value lager. There is no way they are having my Fosters or Carling!!!

just remembered also tried some of that indian larger they give you free sometimes when you order take away slug's liked that too.

What do you all do with slugs from the beer traps? Now don't laugh but I have serious problem with slugs, they really give me the shivers and I can't stand the sight of them I do use slug pellets on occasion but I still have to pick them up, salt is even worse - what messs

i just tip them out and dig them in the garden or throw them into the compost,but it does stink awful and can look very goowie,not sure thats any good for you.

Sounds revolting The big black and orange ones are the worst but they only hang around the compost eating all the decaying veg and I suppose don't too much harm there. I shall just ignore them as best I can

I've given up using beer traps because the dozy beetles were jumping in and drowning too. I once found a frog sat inside a jam-jar full of Tesco Value Lager - just his little eyes were showing - I set him free and he seemed none the worse for wear (but then its only 2% strong)

Have used Newcastle Brown Ale to very good effect in marg tubs. Did not put lids on so it may have gota bit diluted now with the recent rain. Next time will put holes in the side and leav the lids on!

Sticks in the 'slug traps' can help the beetles climb out.

I've even used out of date lager to great effect. Must have been a long period when the kids didn't come home!

Don't forget the beetles are friendly predators too and need saving from your slug pubs!

If you make a slug trap out of the bottom third of a plastic mineral bottle. Cut sections out so that the top resembles a castle turret, sink this into the ground up to the turrets, fill with value lager and put a saucer on the top. The slugs slither through the gaps but other insects can't fall in by accident.

If that doesn't make sense just look at the time!!
