using recycled IBC's

I've got my eye on a black IBC on here

just wondering whether it would be ok on bare ground or if it needs to be on concrete/flags to support it when full?

We have an IBC to collect water off our shed. It's fab but when full VERY heavy. Ours is founded on some old concrete fence panels and then lifted up by breeze blocks on top. It seems to be holding OK and I'm sure it would sink straight into virgin ground. Think we got ours rather cheaper than that also so it might be worth you looking around but can't remember for sure now.

I would stick it on a propper base. Once its full of water it will be well heavy.

I would put some hard core, then pour a concrete base.

Well.....let's put it this way....1 litre of water =1 kg or 2.2 pounds....so when full, it will weigh 1000kg's = 1 tonne so think carefully where you're going to site it. The price seems a bit high to me as where I worked, we had to pay people to take them! Saying that, if you cannot find one, then needs as needs must. Try looking around first though.

You need it lifted up a bit to get the watering can under it anyway
Ours is on a couple of inches of hardcore then 3 rows of breezeblocks (solid ones). It hasn't budged/sunk yet and it's been there a year so far. Ours cost us �30 via our allotment's Secretary.

I have three of these currently to collect rainwater from my shed - they sit on pallets in a row, with each one sitting on two pallets less, i.e, th tank at the downpipe is on 5 pallets, the one next to it on three pallets and the final one is on one pallet. They are all interlinked with some pipe so that they self fill when there is lots of rain.
I bought some connectors on E bay that allow me to attach the hose direct to the IBC tank outlet, so no bother with trying to get a watering can inder them, even if they were on the ground.
I have just accquired another 15 of these. Normally �20 a pop but as I'm taking all 15, I'm getting them for a tenner.
Shop around - loads on E bay - search for IBC tanks- you will find cheaper but if you cannot transport it yourself, the haulage costs might sting you a bit.

Why on earth wouldn't your council allow them - beggars belief, they're just being used as large water butts which most coucils will sell you at reduced prices, actually, maybe that's why.....................

We have rules and one of the rules is all water butt's shall be green (everybody's are blue)
Green house's shall be white and any consturution shall be no higher than 6 feet (kidney bean frame's and the like ).
Another rule is there shall be no Licentious behaviour don't know what thats all about .

I've seen them cheaper but not for the black ones, thought those would be better at stopping the algae growing in it. I'll have another look around, should be able to borrow a van if I can find some locally.
Also, what are they like to lift? I've seen weight ranges of 45 - 60kg but does the size make it seem heavier? (I've got about 15 steps it would need to come down - and my house is a bit away from where I can park but we've managed an under counter freezer before and they're quite heavy)

It's going in my garden and I'm hoping to plant a few climbers up it to disguise it a bit so no problems with secretarys!
I like the idea of a few in a row - are they easy to put holes in?
