Polly Tunnel and Bird problems !!

I have just got a polly tunnel put up in the school i work at, it has been pecked by the local seagulls and need some tips on how to get them to stay off!! I have just put some netting over it, but are there any other tips anyone can help me with . Thanks

Welcome to the Vine Shrek. Sorry I can't help you to get rid of those pesky gulls but I can confirm what a pest they can be.

Many years ago I spent a summer on the Island of Mull. Every time I lifted the lid on the rubbish bin gulls the size of helicopters came swooping in. I was terrified of them. In the end I left the rubbish disposal to my husband who batted them with the bin lid. Didn't stop them though.

Hope somebody can help you but I don't think there's an easy solution.
Have you tried the Council pest control ?

we have problems with cats using their claws to climb our tunnel, I tried putting vaseline where they climbed but now ive put a row of waterbutts at the side to stop them. I suppose the holes the claws make help with ventilation!

Welcome to the Vine. I've never heard of seagulls doing this sort of thing before, but they can be a right nuisance (for me that involves waiting until I've hung my washing out, then flying past and pooing on it!). Just a thought, how about sticking silhoettes of birds of prey on the top of the tunnels? I did once buy a pack of these years ago, you must still be able to get them. Can't think of any other ideas that are practical! Good luck with it.

Havent had that problem, but have had issues with pidgeons. they sit on the hoops and wait for me to open the doors in warm weather, then enter and eat my early peas etc. I fasten some coarse mesh in the doorway, large enough to unhinder pollenating insects.

Incidentally, for anyone who may have similar problems, I find small birds (esp sparrows)do the same in my G/house and eat the seedlings, so net that door also
