sensory garden for the speical needs unit

Hello my name is ryan and i am a forteen year old head gardener at my school i suffer with ADHD and am on the ortistic spectrom, i am a bright lad and im not being big headed and i have been helping and growing in the speical need`s garden for 2 years now and i have come to the conclution that the children with speical needs need some where to go and relax instead of walking around and getting bullied by the other kids.
what i am telling you this for is because i have a plot on the school ground where all these children can go but the school don`t have much funding for this project so i need lots of things for the sensory garden, seed`s, plant`s, or even inperational picture`s of bits of your garden we could use, so please coment or help out for the school`s sensory garden.

Well done Ryan, you have got to grow Lemon Verbena in your garden. When you smell the leaves they fizz in your nose!

You have to grow some things with noisy leaves Ryan. Walking around here where I'm visiting atm I hear the leaves clacking together and it's interesting.

Hi Ryan and welcome to the vine. My grandson suffers from Autism and loves the smell of mint in the garden. He will pick a few leaves and take them to the couple next door to smell. He also loves the smell of Lavendar.

Hi Ryan, good luck with your garden. You're very lucky that your school has one. Sensory gardens can be lovely and there are so many plants that smell or look and feel different so I'm sure you'll be able to make something wonderful.

Hello Ryan. Being Head Gardener at just 14 is pretty cool

My son is autistic and his school are building a sensory garden too. They are using lots of herbs because they smell nice and look good. Many of them are quite easy to look after too, so they'll be ok at weekends and in the holidays. They're hoping to use some of them in the school kitchen as well.

Hi Ryan, Croeso (say this like K-roy-so). This link takes you to the Stackpole walled garden site and the reason I am putting it here is because they had a sensory garden last time I visited and may be able to tell you about it.

I have a few lawn camomile plants which I could send to you. They smell quite pleasant, I grew a patch of them for a pupil I used to have in my school who had ADHD and stroking the plants to smell them used to help him calm down. (So pm me when you are ready for them if you want them.)

I'm sure you won't forget that sight is also a sense so you can always grow some really bright flowers even if they don't smell, feel or sound nice!

My class grow lots of herbs and every so often we make herb teas and have a tasting.

Well done you,head gardener wow ,you sound like you got the enthusiasm for gardening,we have a special needs plot on our lottie site,a few of us give plants to them,it's always good to help,the young people who come seem to love it to,their plots have a lawn area to,fruit trees,raised beds for those who cannot bend down,green house,in fact a lovely set up,am glad you took the advice to chat to us,you will always get good advice from one or another on here,good on you lad,sometimes we send peeps a hug,but,i am sending you a big gentle pat on the back
