    Hmm....that’s a young tree! It will carry on on you’ll up with a row of trees. Laid hedges aren’t just for sheep.

      I used to teach hedgelaying. Just to volunteers, but still. Mind you, I'm only familiar with the Cumberland style, which is pretty brutal.

        Oh, I love this thread....in Wales you get a thick double hedge, Cumbria has thinner hedges as they don’t keep livestock in them when they have been recently laid to give them time to regrow. Very interesting.

          All very interesting, we'll be laying ours using the old north lancastrian farmers method for hedge laying, otherwise known as doing what the father in law says. We're very lucky that we have a tame farmer to help us do ours. Can't wait for it to be ready to do.

            That looks like a pile of firewood!

            None of my plant stems are that thick. Good pair of loppers would cut most of them. Perhaps another year or so yet.
