  • Top Soil

    Good evening,

Thanks to those that replied to my earlier compost thread. I now have another query about top soil.

I have loads of it, everywhere. I have covered my borders with a thick layer of wood bark as mulch. Whenever I add a new plant I clear back the mulch remove some top soil and then add some compost and the plant. I am then left with a bucket of clay top soil.

I have tried breaking it up and putting it under shrubs, also scattering it on the grass but it seams to never disappear.

I know this sounds strange and I am expecting some comments like "bury it" but it is a serious concern

    Any ideas????

Top soil isn't clay. Are you just saying you are removing clay?

I am removing the soil that is in my garden. It is clay like and I have put some in the compost but I need to find more spaces to get rid of it.

Keep digging compost and manure into it and the texture will improve.

If you have a bonfire bung a load on. The fire will change the structure of the clay and dig it in with the ash.
