  • Can you compost dog poo?

So for years I've been faithfully collecting my dog's poop into a plastic bag and putting it in my black rubbish bin. But recently I've been thinking how bad all those little bags are for the environment. So is there a way to compost dog poo and if so, how? Are there restrictions on how I use it? Thanks!

Here's an old thread that may help, personally I wouldn't use omnivores poop, but you could say chickens are, but it's not for me.

You certainly can compost it, although because they eat meat, I wouldn't want to use it on my veg plot. Having said that, my dogs have, over the years, pooped plenty on the veg patch and it's not always been tidied up in a timely fashion and it's not done me any harm that I know of.

I do compost that poop too though, and use it just for stuff like flower beds etc.

I’m sure I seen a device years ago that is buried in the ground and you collect your dog & cat poop and put it in it and apparently it broke down into the earth. Can’t remember the name or where I seen it

Brilliant think will get a dedicated dalek and use it for flowers and tubs. Or do you think I should invest in a hot bin to be on safe side?

I'd not use it on my veg.
Nor rub my eyes after dealing with it.
Try not to put your fingers in your mouth.
                Etc...

If you want a hotbin, buy a hotbin, unless you are planning on eating the flowers

Yes, I used one 20 years ago. It was horrible and didn't really work.
Possibly wrapping in newspaper and put in a compost bin for flower beds is a better option.
