I've thought about that too, but the prevailing wind seems to blow directly into the face of it. My new garden does seem to be a bit of a windy one, so I need to think seriously about protection for the plants.

Some people use that netting that they put up for safety round scaffolding as a quick fix, until some sort of shelter belt can be grown, I believe.
