There's a lovely young pigeon in our garden, but it's lame. Is there anything I can do to help it? We have two cats, so bringing it into the house isn't an option.

Usually nothing much can be done for their legs
. You could try putting him in a box outside for a few days, some raisins would go down well, bird seed etc and some water. Don't offer bread. If after a few days rest it's no better I'm afraid the best option would be to do the deed. If you can't do it, take it to the vets. Sorry, probably not what you wanted to hear.

When I said lame, I just meant that it can't fly - it's legs seem fine. Maybe it hasn't learnt to fly yet, it seems very young?He-Pep!Comment

Oh, if there doesn't appear to be anything broken you can put him somewhere out of the way as BB has said. He might just need a recovery period.
I'm a sucker for an animal in need...the OH brought home a weasel
yesterday! It's very young, but still has teeth, I started him on milk out of a dropper but he's eating out of a saucer this morning.

Good news! I called the number on helpwildlife.co.uk and they contacted our local SSPCA officer, who came and picked the poor wee thing up. No injuries apparently, just a bit thin and exhausted. Hopefully it'll make a full recovery!He-Pep!Comment
