  • Dawn Chorus?

Talking to Mum on phone as I type!

    She is worried......

She woke early this morning and waited for the dawn chorus, and waited, and waited,
    NO dawn chorus.....why was this?

She was awake when it was still dark. During today She sees and hears no birds!

She lives near Southend in Essex way out near the marshes and fields.

    Where have they gone....help please!

The birds are having their annual moult, so stay quiet.

Also, they don't need to defend their territory if they've finished breeding for the year.

    Don't worry, they'll be back.

It's mainly June and July here. As TS says, they moult in Autumn and need to keep out of harm's way.

The dawn chorus does stop Headfry. It is most prominent in spring and early summer at the start of the breeding season - then it stops. I think it finished in June here.

We get pigeons cooing in the very early morning, I love the soft sound, one I always connect with that slight morning mist you get as we go into autumn It means a hot day and precious sun.

And for the first time have heard owls in the evening - just a few times.
