        I have seen them by the score gathering, probably feeding, around neighbouring hedges, but many of the butterflies look pallid and washed out.

          So would you Rana if you had flown as far as they have.

          To be serious, the pale ones are the old ones and the next generation, later this year, will be a lot more colourful.

            couple of weeks ago i noticed painted butterflies all over the place here in spain i thought it was a population explosion
