Weird "thing"

Hi
I was out digging today and came across what I thought was a slug but as soon as it was exposed it rolled up into a ball. What on earth was it?
Very slug like ie slimy and quite large, size of a leopard slug. I put it on the path and it started to uncurl and from one blunt end it sort of oozed out into a probe and quickly started to probe the ground and the next I looked it had buried itself.

If it was flat and black, looking remarkably like a somewhat squashed slug, it may have been the dreaded invasive, worm-dissolving New Zealand flatworm. I hope for your garden's sake that it isn't that !

Thanks for the flatworm pics, Don't think it was one it was too "plump", quite short, unrolled it was about 2" long, very weird though to see it elongate one end....
Wish I knew what it was.

Could it have been a leech?..they do live on land as well.
There are different types which are different colours.
I found one similar on our lottie

That might just be it, I found your thread about finding one in the leeks... would not want to do that!
Difficult to find good pictures but the olive green colour and size sounds right and the extending probe bit - just wish I'd had my glasses on at the time to look more closely.

And just as I've finally got to cope with the horrors of slugs, am I going to deal with lots of these as well, oh dear....
